As many of you know, my absolute favorite place to buy groceries is usually whole foods. Sometimes, the prices are a bit outrageous and I end up opting for the local Market Basket instead. What I did notice. however, is Whole Foods often has great sale on one or two meat items per week. This week as I was looking over the chicken and beef selections I came across the sale item: Bone-In Beef Short Ribs. At $4.99 per pound, I figured I would pick some and and give em' a whirl.
To start this recipe, you must know, I have never ever made a Beef Short Rob before, ever. So, I perused the web for some ideas, pulled ingredients from here and there and came up with this little gem.
Slow Cooker Bone-In Beef Short Ribs
Ingredients
- 1⁄3 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon pepper
- 3 lbs bone-in beef short ribs
- ¼ cup butter
- 1 cup chopped sweet onion
- 2 cup beef broth
- ¾ cup red wine vinegar
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- ¾ cup chili sauce
- 4 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
Instructions:
1. Put flour, salt and pepper in a bag. Add beef and shake to coat.
2. Brown beef in butter in large skillet. Add to Crock Pot.
3. In same skillet, combine remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Pour over ribs in crock pot.
4. Cook on low for nine hours. If you are in a rush, you can try high for three hours and low for two to three.
5. The meat will fall right off the bone when you pull it out of the pot. To serve the traditional southern way, mash up some taters and cook some greens. For me, I just slapped mine on a bed of crispy kale and called it a night.
